The year 2022 will be marked by women’s European handball. Montenegro, Slovenia, and Northern Macedonia have taken over the baton from the Danes and Norwegians, who hosted the European Championship in 2020. The championship will take place between November 4 and 20, and the final fights will be hosted by Arena Stožice.

The first championship of the best women’s handball national teams of the Old Continent was held in 1994 in Germany. In the 14 European Championships so far, the same number of countries have won one of the medals. There were also 14 host countries. The Norwegians are the most successful with 12 medals, and Denmark, Hungary, France, and Montenegro have also won gold in previous competitions.

Thirteen of the best European teams will qualify for this year’s competition through the qualifications alongside the three hosts. Slovenia will host the preliminary round of the competition, which will take place in Celje (Zlatorog Hall) and Ljubljana (Stožice Arena), the main round, semi-final matches, and matches for 5th and 3rd place. The grand final will also be hosted by the Slovenian capital.
